Composer

My work as a composer grows out of the meeting point between Western classical tradition and the modal musical languages of South Asia. While my training and artistic grounding lie in the classical piano repertoire, I have long been fascinated by the expressive possibilities found in modal systems such as those used in Indian and Pakistani classical music.

In Western music, development often takes place through harmonic movement and modulation between keys. In contrast, many Eastern musical traditions remain centered around a single tonal landscape, exploring variation through rhythm, ornamentation, and melodic transformation. My compositions attempt to bring these two approaches into dialogue.

The result is music that remains structurally grounded in the classical tradition while drawing its colour, gesture, and melodic language from modal thinking. Through this process, I aim to create works that feel both familiar and new rooted in tradition yet shaped by a broader cultural perspective.
